    Dr. Álvaro Fernández-Llamazares is a Post-Doctoral research fellow at the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS) of the University of Helsinki. His research areas are ethnoecology and biocultural diversity, focusing mainly on the study of Indigenous and Local Knowledge. He has conducted more than 27 months of ethnographic fieldwork amongst Indigenous Peoples and local communities across much of the Global South, working in countries such as Bolivia, Costa Rica, Kenya and Madagascar.
